First, watch this short 4:30 minute film. It’s ten years old and has received 44 million views.
It’s mentioned in UnHerd’s recent debate about re-wilding.
Ben Goldsmith comes across as clearly winning the debate, but John Lewis-Stempel makes important points not taken into adequate account. Farmers are making headlines all over Europe these days. Is this a typical farmer arguing against a new Green Elite dabbler-financier?
And what about those farm subsidies?
Everything we talked about yesterday applies, and more.
In the US, with our vast landscapes and public lands, there’s a lot of room, literally, for compromise and following multiple schemes in tandem. Europe is a different case. Even so, I can totally see this being a debate between progressive idealists, maybe with dubious ecology and unrealistic science mixed in, and the NIMBYs.
What do you think?
Remember: wolves are smart. And hungry.
I thought I'd seen every wolf video, especially re Yellowstone! Turns out I hadn't. A fascinating topic, along with beavers & rewilding in general. But as @TaylorDodson argues so well, we need a grounded, pragmatic approach that promotes consideration of perspectives of all stakeholders.
